Signed and Mounted Portrait of Michoacan Women from Mexico, ‘The Little Merchant Girl’

A young woman with a baby in her shawl examines the contents of a basket. The little merchant girl moves embroidered napkins aside to show off the homemade tortillas or perhaps tamales she is selling. Angel del Palacio works with crayons and colored pencils to create this expressive portrait of two Michoacan women on market day. The composition is matted, mounted on a pinewood stretcher and covered with a protective pane of glass. br br Titled “La marchantita” in Spanish.
